Chairperson:Michael Traugott
Scope:Development of suggested protocols for usability testing of voting machines that incorporate human factors into the assessment.
Deliverables:Reports and Presentations describing important usability issues and how they might be implemented as testing standards.
Timing Objectives:First report due by 12/05.
Description:
Various groups have been working on the development of usability criteria that might be instituted as part of standardized usability testing of voting machines. Many projects are working on defining and developing output measures, including a collaboration at the University of Maryland, University of Michigan, and Rochester University, as well as at the Cal Tech/MIT Voting Project. The workgroup will focus on developing proposals for useful ways to implement and assess the effectiveness of voting machines in these terms, with direct relevance of the output measures being developed. This work should be accomplished in consultation with user/voter interest groups that are interested in accessibility and usability.
